Based on the story by A. Chayanov and Russian poetry of the 18th and 19th centuries
Opera in 4 acts for soloists (lead roles – bass-baritone, bass profundo, mezzo-soprano) and a large symphony orchestra
The full title of the opera on the title page of the manuscript is "Venediktov, or Memorable Events of My Life" ("The Golden Triangle"). A lyrical fantasy in 4 acts, 10 scenes based on texts from works by Russian writers of the 19th century." In fact, the opera is based on a story of the same name by Alexander Chayanov (a remarkable scientist and writer who had not yet been rehabilitated by the time the composer worked on the opera). The authors of the libretto are composer and poet Vladimir Gubanov. The work was completed in 1986. The opera has not been performed; only two fragments of the score were heard at the concert.
The action takes place in Moscow in the early 19th century, and the plot is somewhat reminiscent of a later novel by Mikhail Bulgakov: the appearance and actions of evil spirits in the ancient capital.
"Venediktov" is a "grand opera" in form, including even such a historically necessary link of the genre as ballet ("theatre within a theatre"). Accordingly, it requires great performing forces and artistic and staging capabilities. The musical language of the opera itself is changeable in accordance with the situations that arise, sometimes "real", sometimes "incredible".
