For string orchestra with choir in the finale
In three parts
The symphony got its name from its final movement, which is constructed as variations (with the participation of the choir) on the theme of the Old Believer spiritual verse "God saw, the Creator saw". However, the center of the work is not the finale, but the third movement - the wonderful Lacrymosa, which is a complete piece that can be performed separately. This mournful music is dedicated to the memory of "L.", that is, the Old Believer Lykov family, who, defending their faith from the encroachments of the authorities, lived for many years in the deep taiga in complete solitude, preserving the church charter and traditional life.
