The opera-monologue “From the Artist’s Letters” – musical stories for baritone and symphony orchestra – was written in 1974.
The libretto of the opera is based on the book by Konstantin Korovin "Letters. Documents. Memories", published by the Academy of Arts. Konstantin Korovin was not only an outstanding Russian artist, but also an excellent writer and storyteller; the pages of his memoirs feature vivid figures of the artist's friends - Mikhail Vrubel, Valentin Serov, Fyodor Chaliapin. The opera preserves the sequence of events, "told" by one performer - the singer (like a "one-man show").
