Quite a late (1999) composition is in a certain sense a return to the imagery and partly to the style of the early cantatas on folk texts. The poetry of Nikolai Klyuev, based on metaphysically interpreted images of peasant life, is permeated with a keen sense of sadness for the passing beauty, and the same mood prevails in the oratorio dedicated to the memory of Georgy Sviridov. As Yu. M. Butsko recalled, one of the main, decisive musical impressions of his youth was Sviridov's "Poem in Memory of Sergei Yesenin". Half a century later, this thread is picked up by "Pesnoslov", where (just like in Sviridov's "Poem") there are no folklore quotations.
The composition exists in two versions: for two solo female voices (soprano and mezzo-soprano), choir and orchestra, and for two solo voices with piano.
